What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word ‘Kimono’? A Japanese traditional garment, right?

Well, let me enlarge your perspective with kimono shrugs, which came into trend a few years ago and still haven’t faded even a bit. First of all, what is a kimono? A kimono is a loose throw on type of garment, which is neither buttoned nor zipped, but left loose in a wavy form.

Kimono shrugs are perfect for wearing in warm/humid/hot weather as they are airy and quite light in weight. These shrugs are available in all sorts of sizes (read lengths), patterns, colours and fabrics. If you are searching for something unique to wear, choose a kimono shrug. And believe me, you won’t regret it.

Kimonos never go out of fashion, and they look super cool when they’re mixed and matched with a variety of different clothes. I think I won’t be wrong if I say that a kimono is a fusion of a cape and a scarf. It also gives the feeling that one is wearing a silk cardigan as they are smooth and comfortable, and can be layered with any and every outfit.

Comfortable and chic, these kimono shrugs can be found in the summer wardrobe of every girl. When I felt like going boho, I paired this kimono shrug with pimp pop on the border with some accessories and I was good to go. Try it out with a white tank top, blue denim skinnier and a pair of stilettoes. And finally nail the look by roping your hair on one side.

It’s unimaginable how an easy-to-use simple kimono boost an outfit tenfold. A plain kimono is a great alternative to a blazer for office wear, and looks chic as long as you tailor it neatly.

A few options:

* try with a LBD

* try it along with shorts and pair it with a tube or tank top for that tomboy look

* or you can do like I did by instantly teaming a pair of regular jeans and t-shirt with pimp pop monochrome kimono

Note: Chiffon fabric kimonos are lightweight, perfect for beaches and summer walks, and helps in protection from sunburns.

Suggestion: Keep the rest of the outfit neutral if you are choosing a printed kimono.

Here are a few images of how I dressed up in a Kimono.
